JUVENILE DETENTION CENTER

The Craighead County Juvenile Detention Center provides 24 hour 7 day a week juvenile detention services to all surrounding counties for juveniles between the ages of 10 and 17 years of age. Referrals are accepted statewide as space is available. However, the target population of Craighead County will receive first priority. Referrals are accepted from juvenile or municipal courts, intake officers, and law enforcement agencies. The Detention Center has a maximum capacity of 62 beds 32 males, 28 females and 2 isolation cells overseen by the Juvenile Director, and Juvenile Detention Officers. Craighead County Juvenile Detention Center offers an education program under the supervision of the Jonesboro Public School system. The program is funded through the Arkansas Department of Education, Special Education Division at no cost to Craighead County or the Jonesboro School System. Four full-time certified teachers provide educational services to students throughout the year, including through the summer months. The goal of the educational program is to have students continue their education while incarcerated.

DETENTION CENTER

The Craighead County Detention Center began housing inmates in 1989. The goal of the Craighead County Detention Center is to create a safe, secure, and humane environment for both staff members and inmates.

The detention facility houses a maximum of 346 inmates, with a separation of felon status male, misdemeanor status male, special needs male inmates, female felony and misdemeanor status inmates and a separate juvenile facility.  In 2007, the Quorum Court approved a $1.8 million  expansion to the Booking Department, raising the total capacity to 360 inmates.

There are supervising pods for each classification of inmates: Felony, Misdemeanor, Special Needs Housing and Juvenile Inmates. We have 73 officers supervising 4 shifts, assigned at 12 hours per shift.

The Craighead County Detention Center has medical staff under the direction of a supervising Medical Director to effectively control inmates' emergency medical needs while housed at the Detention facility.

Inmate meal services are under a contracted entity, Tiger Correctional Services, Inc.  Tiger implements a suitable meal service program, under mandates of the Criminal Detention Facility Review Commission ensuring all inmates decided by their class receive the proper caloric intake, meeting nutritional and special dietary needs.  Tiger Correctional also serves the inmates commissary needs separate from meal services.  Inmates are allowed to order hygiene and snack items from Tiger on Monday and Thursday of each week.  Inmates will receive their orders on Tuesday and Friday of each week. Web deposits and online commissary ordering is available by clicking this link. You can also use the Commissary kiosk in the lobby of the Sheriff's Office. There are signs above each kiosk denoting the purpose for the station. Make sure you are at the correct kiosk before submitting your payment, because the machines do not issue returns.
