The Special Response Team (SRT) provides the Sheriff of Craighead County with a team capable of providing an enhanced response to developed threats in their area of responsibility within minutes of initial notifications.

The Special Response Team is a specially trained team of Sheriff's Deputies equipped to isolate, contain, gather information for, and if necessary neutralize special threats.

Recognizing that the presence of a highly trained, highly skilled police tactical unit has been shown to substantially reduce the risk of injury or loss of life to citizens, police officers and subject, and recognizing that a well managed team response to critical incidents usually results in successful resolution of critical incidents, it is the intent of the Craighead County Sheriff's Special Response Team to provide a highly trained and skilled tactical team.

The mission of the Special Response Team is to support agencies with tactical response to critical incidents. Critical incidents are defined as, but not limited to:

  • Attempted suicide/armed
  • Barricaded subject(s)
  • Hostage situations
  • High-risk apprehension
  • High-risk warrant service
  • Personal protection
  • Special assignments

The following are some of the more recent examples of SWAT team situations that were resolved through extensive training and specialized equipment.
